Now that we have secured a spot, the work continues! We met with our Producer, Head Editor and Art Department Manager to work out our wishlist for the new space. It feels like we’re kids again, writing to Santa!
You’ll see from the plans, the space is quickly being filled – there’s always things you don’t think of, like the fact our Art Dept will need a washing machine to wash our smelly costumes.
It’s all feeling very real now, what else do you think we should try and fit in the studio?
Congrats on securing the spot! Looking forward to seeing it as it comes together.
Looks exciting. Would love to see images of the floor plan designs once the ‘actual designers’ have gone over the plans.
You guys are obviously really excited, and we are too. This is going to be a fun journey!
i’m with HaydenRead, i wanna see some floor plans in more detail. really excited to be…adjacent to this journey and can’t wait to see more. π
You need a room or at least a big cupboard dedicated to random cables, those that you think you will never need again but that when you do need you realize that they are no longer produced and you wishfully think back on the 50 or so you threw out a year ago….
Any serious business always has a ball pit. Just a big pit of balls ready to dispense both silliness and possibly minor head injuries, and always smelling faintly of piss. Is that cat piss? But how did a cat get indoors when it’s locked? Did someone bring the cat piss with them?
These are questions only owning a ball pit can answer.
Also a mini bar.
You know where that cat came from. If you lost it you had better run for your life and hope Adam can’t ever find his way out of the pissy ball pit to murder you.
Walk in freezer!
Looking good guys!
You should *definitely* celebrate by live streaming a sleepover/pajama party in the new place!!! π
Super excited for you guys! Can’t wait to see it transform into the new home for the channel!
Nothing like seeing your dreams start to become a reality!
I hope to see more of the planing and later the construction going on. I’m so happy too see you guy have fun.
Wow! This is so exciting! I cant imagine how it is for you all seeing it taking shape.
I love the plans so far. Looking forward to watching it come to life!
wow this is awesome to hear
cant wait to see how you transform it into VLDL
Exciting!!
Love the Tavern getting squeezed into the corner by the bored set. I’m sure that’s the correct size needed, but to me it seems like Rowan just demanding all of the warehouse space possible! π
BTw you said in the video for this space that there was another warehouse that I don’t believe we’ve seen yet. I take it that will be for SIMS set, caves, dungeons and castles sets? very excited to see those designed!
Yeah, looking at the art for the tavern, that absolutely looks like the right size for it.
Still funny to think that manager Rowan demand everything π
So now that you realized you need a washing machine, you do also realize you might indeed need the shower? ππ Also agree with FMcPP, random cables is an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE π I am beyond craziness excited and happy for you, itΒ΄s amazing you were able to find the studio so fast and can finally start on realizing all your visions and dreams and wishes! β€β€β€
but also…again no email received…. *sad Bodge Bodge noises* Aaaah well, back to my “check the blog” reminders π
Grrrrreat! π Looks more than interesting β¦ I really look forward to learn what you guys will build!
One little request from a non native English – can you please stop having music run in the background of these videos (or turn it down a bit) – makes you guys harder to understand π
Glad to see you all are under way to get this place up and running. I’m also excited that there will likely be more frequent behind the scenes updates! I hope you all aren’t running out of space already, but I’m sure there is always room to add on later.
A few things would probably be good to have, and you might have thought of them already:
1. A theatre, something that can be a colour suite for final grading and a double as a sound mixing/checking room as well as a review theatre. More than one might be preferable, but depends on budget.
2. A room for engineering/it, as well as a cool room for any servers you might have., could be the same room if set up properly.
3. Showers.
4. A place for making set pieces, but that might already be part of the art department.
5. Sound proofing, fairly obvious, but for a studio space that can be important.
I’m more aware of how post production is set up than I am regarding a studio, but I’m guessing you’ll be doing both in the new building.
Ahhhh how exciting!!! I’m so stoked for you guys <3
Speed Round: actual body of water for Baelin to fish, better Armor of Agathys for B.O.B. (the current one is pretty good though), a Moral Compass for Greg, a purpose for Kettlesteam (other than jump scares) How does Inspiration work over the internet?
Thanks for all the fantastic content. Hope the Studio turns out great!
So fucking happy yβall found a spot and are getting moved in and built! Yβall do such great amazing work! Canβt wait to see the future!
Always a reality check when you actually try to fill/fit a space but you will figure it out with your brilliant team and a good designer. Excited to see the designs when they are final.
Welcome to the wonderful world of renovation where you realize you donβt have as much space as you think (Iβve been there). The priority list is going to be really helpful because everyone is going to want more than the physical space can hold (they always do). Itβs really fun to create mock up designs so enjoy the process and be creative!
An important step before sending the floor plans off to the designers is to first draw up your Home Alone style battle plans for defending the office space. It will save you so many headaches down the line. You’re welcome.
I’m so excited you guys! Now y’all can really work in getting things set up, and get the sets started for filming! Congrats y’all!
You should see your faces. You look happy, you π
I love that a space was found so quickly! I am looking forward to seeing all of the new sets as they’re built, and I can’t wait for the first episodes filmed on site!
Thank you for all you guys do! You are a true light in the lives of a great many people.
Your excitement is infectious – really happy for you guys π
Plans are looking great – can’t wait to see the final ones!!! Love seeing how excited and pumped up you guys are about this – Congrats!!!!
So excited for you all and to see how the space is brought to life!
You going to do studio tours when it’s all up and running?
I am so excited for what comes out of here. You should do a collab with the How Ridiculous guys ( I know you are from NZ and they are from Australia). That or fly down Linus from LTT and have him show up in Bored.
Hey Viva, I have no idea if you read these comments, but in case you do I wanted to know if you could help me with something. I donated at the $100 tier, and gave you my actual name to be put on the wall; since then, however, I’ve come out as trans and the name I gave you is my deadname. Is there any way I could get you to write a different name on the wall when that day comes? I fully understand if not because I know the deadline for pledge changes was a while ago, but at the same time if you could it would mean so much to me.
If you get in touch with Backerkit support they can change it for you π
CAT CAFE!!!
Your excitement is contagious guys! Great work! So nice to see the designs you are working on. Looking forward to the settlement day video! π
I am so happy for you, good luck with all the planning!
I’m excited for you all! Please share details like this as you go–I haven’t seen the studio development process before and this is really interesting!
For an idea, think of how far people will have to walk to complete their basic tasks, especially for the filming crews.
For example:
– Put post -it notes on each door to represent the room assignments.
– Have someone try out the physical paths they would have to walk between those rooms for an average film day. Especially if carrying/pushing regular equipment.
– Identify places of high traffic congestion or large detours… places where taking out a wall to create a clear path would make someone’s life so much easier.
With this much space, you’re going to want to optimize movement and eliminate obstructions.
AWWWWwwww yeah!
I do hope you will allow a Thursday or Friday happy hour days at your tavern!!
Have a meat smoker outside making the meat to go with the mead!!!
Looking awesome guys! Can’t wait!
Great seeing all is coming together!
Do you have an attic – or basement – where you can find people that went missing years earlier? Every great studio has at least one of those, and you really should plan in all those paranormal investigators just itching for a studio tour… π
And there we were thinking itβs a space youβll have to grow into!π Looks really good though, looking forward to the new designs of the space! Very excited to see that the Tavern is a separate roomπ€©
As an Architectural Intern, I can’t wait to see how the designs turn out! Everything’s moving forwardπ
This is all going to look great when finished. That design for the Bored set is looking amazing. I am but a lowly fan but I have 2 requests. That closet by the front door should be a teaspoon-dropping cupboard for Ben, and 2, that dark hallway must only ever be for creeper moments and jump scares. That is all I request. I know 100% you will not do what I ask, but I can pretend that you will. That’s the studio I have in my head.
All of those hallways are screaming for some Left4Dead Logic
Congratulations. The place looks great. I’m very excited to see how the development progresses.
01:09 man… I just love Rowan hahah
Oh, and when I heard server room etc. I just had to think about Linus flying out there in the future and setting up a multiple TB server rack for them, VLDL colors and all.
Thank you for all the updates, looking forward to more π
Fantastic!!!
Don’t forget a tech store for extra Lighting, Sound and Camera gear!
Congratulations! The place looks epic and seems to have everything you need…. for now π
Looking forward to seeing more updates over the following months π
I just love this, to see you guys and how it’s going, great work and great wishes!
Something no one want to think about: Place for first Aid and to keep someone save after an accident until the Support arrive?
Place for defribilator? All the Stuff that keep you all safe.
Please please please bring back the Teaspoon Dropping Cupboard!!! πππΌπ
Dreams can come true.
I’m so happy for you all! I can’t wait to see how it comes along!
Congratulations! Looking forward to your future endeavors in the new studio!
So excited for all of this!!!!
And as a fellow video editor, I got a good giggle out of the “Media Offline” insert =P
So happy that this is all finally coming together for you guys! The fact that you guys now have your own studio/office(s) is amazing! Love you’re keeping us in the loop! Saw a previous comment about a ‘shower’. I agree, if you guys create a space to clean/maintain your costumes, it would be nice to have a locker room/shower to freshen up!
This is awesome! Things are moving along much faster than I thought they would. Looking forward to seeing how it all turns out, happy for you guys. π€©
Pretty sure you guys need a cook down there with all the people you can have working there…just sayin.. I know a guy who would be willing to relocate from the frozen tundra of North Dakota ππ. Super excited for the studio and all the great things to come from you all.
It’s really a pleasure to watch you guys plan and all. But with all understandable joy, you should take setbacks into account.
You should also have a room where you store things, like cables.
An alarm system and security cameras to keep the studios secure when you’re not there.
Perhaps a reception room or a waiting room for guests.
Dingo chile awesome.
What city is this in?
Exciting update –
OK. now it’s time to get to the build out…
Generic Rules of construction;
* expect it may take longer than you plan –
* be ready for the stress it can cause – emotional / financial / loss of sleep
* you may have an ‘aha – we need to change this’ moment 3/4 the way through – once you see it ‘for real’ – have extra timeline and budget reserve (just in case)
* build out may cost more to complete than anticipated
* there may be 1 part that the whole project needs to ‘pause’ until it arrives — I can’t tell you if it will be HVAC parts, Fire Suppression systems, Plumbing, or Studio quality electrical – again have timeline budget reserve ready…
Get a good builder – (not the cheapest bid, but one that meets timelines and budgets for those stress moments)
communicate, communicate, communicate
Rest
Also – I would avoid ‘working in there while building… even if you can “build out enough to get the building ready for occupancy” — infrastructure in place – offices / green screen – you will only be able to use them productively ‘after construction is done’ as the remaining sets are being built during the daytime. (i.e. trying to live/work in your house while it is being built)
Now – keep celebrating the progress. because you got this.. you are the VLDL team.
Also – STORAGE STORAGE STORAGE –
your Props department needs it,
D&D needs it,
Costume Makers need it,
IT needs it,
Cinemetography needs it,
Accounting needs it..
everyone needs more storage…
I am so enjoying watching this process! I ‘m with HaydenRead and KageWolf; I would love to hear more about the meeting with the designers and what they have to say. I’ve also read a couple of good suggestions for putting in showers, but I wonder if it might work better to have them adjacent to the already extant bathrooms in the building. I know nothing about studios, and I’m very interested to learn more! Thank you for the update!
Very inspirational watching the updates, great to see a group of mates living the dream, glad I payed the extra funds to be kept up-to-date. π
Thanks for keeping us updated (make us feel apart of it) Are you guys still going to film in Honeywood outside where you have been filming?
I feel your happiness through this vlog, your eyes are sparkling from joy and you make my day! π
You guys look so happy! I’m so glad to be a part of this adventure with you!
So proud of you guys. Can’t wait to see the sets when they’re fully built.
Great news. I like it. π
So Excited that you found a studio and love how happy everyone is. Inspires me every time I see the way you are taking charge of your destiny. These updates are the best!!
Dont forget a break room for lunches. Vending machine fridge, big ol tv, relaxing couch, tables chair lol being hangrey is no fun!
This is so exciting!!! So happy that you guys are happy and thriving and making the dream work!
Would love to know who the ‘actual designers’ are that you are using?
I’m an architecture student and this whole venture Viva is going on is like all my favourite things coming together! I want to make sure whoever you use or the combination of companies you use end up on my radar of people I want to work for!! The visuals look awesome!
It looks awesome! Looking forward to be part of this journey π€©
The place looks awesome, so many possibilities to do with that much space! It’s so amazing, seeing you guys finally realize your dream. π Looking forward to more updates ^^
This is so exciting, congratulations on finding the perfect spot so quickly! I am having so much fun following your progress π.
Why do I get no notifications about new blog entries? I always find them when they are up for a week already. It worked once though, but nothing since then.
Happy to see how you get along though.
You need a closet specifically for being creepy stalkers. You have to hide in there for hours making weird creepy noises. Do not reveal yourself until someone asks if there’s a monster in the closet. Make the creepiest reveal you possibly can.
Of course I am hoping to see the return of the teaspoon dropping cupboard. Hopefully Ben is still alive in there. You guys did remember to feed him, right? He eats 3 times a day. Don’t feed him after midnight though. Outrageous things will happen if you do.
